元延祐六年（1319年）迁置，属化州路（1）。治所即今广东省廉江县东北黄墩村（2）。天历元年（1328年）迁治（3）。

（1），《元史》卷63?地理六?湖广等处行中书省?广西两江道宣慰使司都元帅府?化州路：“元至元十五年立安抚司。十七年改总管府。领县三：石龙，吴川，石城。”（中华书局，1976年，5册，1536页）。
《嘉庆一统志》卷448?高州府?古迹?廉江废县：“在石城县北。…。县志，宋县治在县北江头铺西，砖石尚存。元皇庆八年迁于东黄村，大历元年又移于新和驿，即今治。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，168册）。按：皇庆为仁宗年号，仅有二年，皇庆八年当是延祐六年。又：大历当为天历。
