明洪武九年（1376年）四月以化州降县，属高州府（1）。治所即今广东省化州县（2）。十四年（1381年）五月复为化州（3）。

（1），《明史》45?地理六?广东?高州府?化州：“元化州路，属海北海南道。洪武元年为府。七年十一月降为州，以州治石龙县省入。九年四月又降为县，来属。十四年五月复为州。”（北京，中华书局，1974年，4册，1143页）。
（2），《嘉庆一统志》卷448?高州府?古迹?石龙废县：“在化州东北。梁陈时置，为石龙郡治。《陈书?冯仆传》，太建中自阳春太守转石龙太守，母洗氏为石龙郡太夫人。是也。隋属高凉郡，唐为辩州治。宋改辩州为化州。明洪武八年省县入也。州志，旧址在州东北。按《寰宇记》：石龙冈，在州西南三里。今冈在州治北，则旧城当在今州东北三里。”山川：“石龙冈，…府志，今州治左。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，168册）。清化州即今化州县，石龙县作同今化州县处理。
