梁大同五年（539年）置，属宋隆郡（1）。治所在今广东省高明县北南岸村（2）。隋开皇十年（590年）省入平兴县（3）。

（1），《隋书》卷31?信安郡：“平陈，置端州。统县七：高要，旧置高要郡，平陈郡废。大业初置信安郡。…平兴，旧置宋隆郡，领初宁、建宁、熙穆、崇德、召兴、崇化、南安等县。平陈，郡废，并所领县入焉。又梁置梁泰郡及县。平陈，郡废，县改曰清泰。大业初废入焉。…”（北京，中华书局，1973年，3册，882页）。
按：《宋书》宋熙郡、《南齐书》宋隆郡下均无南安县。南安县或为梁大同五年分宋隆郡置梁泰郡时所置，属宋隆郡。今作梁大同五年置。
（2），县治无考。据隋平陈初宁与建宁、熙穆、崇德、召兴、崇化、南安等县废入平兴分析，县治当在今高明县境或附近县境，今姑定于高明县北南岸村。
