宋开宝六年（973年）复置，属广州，熙宁六年（1073年）改属端州，重和元年（1118年）属肇庆府（1）。治所即今广东省四会县（2）。元至元十七年（1280年）属肇庆路（3）。明清属肇庆府（4）。1912年废府留县（5）。

（1），《舆地纪胜》卷96?广南东路?肇庆府：唐天宝元年复为端州。五代为南伪汉所有。开宝四年地归版图，元符三年升兴庆军节度，政和八年（重和元年）改为肇庆府，仍为肇庆军节度，中兴以来仍隶广南东路。今领县二，治高要；四会，“国朝会要云：开宝五年，废四会县入南海郡。六年复置（属广州）。是年又废化蒙县隶四会县。又云，熙宁六年以广州之四会县隶端州。”（北京，中华书局，1992年，3册，3017-3019页）。
（2），县治自秦至清，未见迁徙记载，治所即今广东省四会县。
（3），《元史》卷62?地理五?江西等处行中书省?广东道宣慰使司都元帅府?肇庆路：“宋升肇庆府。元至元十三年，徇广东，唯肇庆未附。十六年，广南西道宣慰司定之，因隶广西。十七年，改为下路总管府，仍属广东。”“领县二：高要，倚郭；四会。”（中华书局，1976年，5册，1514-1515页）。

《嘉庆一统志》卷447?肇庆府一：“明洪武元年复曰肇庆府，属广东布政使司治。本朝顺治六年，析广州之新会县及新兴、恩平二县地，增置开平县；雍正十年，析新会、开平二县地，增置鹤山县。共领州一，县十二：高要县，附郭。四会。…。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，167册）。
