刘宋文帝元嘉元年（424年）置，属南海郡（1）。治所即今广东省增城县西南雅瑶村（2）。齐因之（3）。梁天监元年（502年）废（4）。

（1），《宋书》卷38?州郡四?广州?南海太守：领县十，“绥宁男相，文帝立。”（北京，中华书局，1974年，4册，1190页）。今作文帝元嘉元年置。
（2），《嘉庆一统志》卷442?广州府二?古迹：“绥宁废县，在增城县西南。《宋书?宋书州郡志》南海郡领绥宁县，文帝立。齐因之。后废。县志，今为绥宁乡，在县西南四十里。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，164册）。嘉庆《增城县志》卷2?里厘：“乡三曰开元、绥宁、归宁。都十有一曰…绥宁、清湖、甘泉、合兰上、合兰下，属绥宁乡。”“绥宁都统村四十六：雅瑶、仙村…”（台湾，成文出版社《中国方志丛书》第161号，1册，160、168页）。今据此里距、方位和隶属关系，定绥宁古县于增城县西南仙村镇雅瑶村。
（3），《南齐书》卷14?州郡志上：“广州，镇南海。”南海郡领县十三，有“绥宁。”（北京，中华书局，1972年，1册，262页）。
（4），《梁书》、《陈书》无绥宁县。据注（2），姑作梁天监元年废。",
