唐天祐四年（907年）迁置，属广州，治所在今广东省增城县北东街（1）。五代属兴王府（2），宋属广州，开宝五年（972年）废（3）。

（1），《嘉庆一统志》卷442?广州府二?古迹：“增城故城，在增城县东北。…通志，汉故县在今县东北五十里。唐末移于今县东北十里九冈村，后又移今治。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，164册）。光绪《广东府志》卷83?古迹略一?增城县：“增城故城，…在县东北五十里，唐末移于今县东北十里九冈村，今为民居名东街。谨按，黄通志云，增城故城一在开元乡金牛都，一在九冈村。”（台湾，成文出版社《中国方志丛书》第1号，2册，447页）。
据宣统元年《广东地舆全图》增城县图：清增城县北有东街汛。（台湾，成文出版社《中国方志丛书》第108号）。今据此作唐末天祐四年迁治于九冈村，定点于今增城县北东街。
（2），光绪五年《广州府志》卷6?广州府沿革表?南汉：“兴王府，[注]高祖乾亨元年改广州为兴王府，领县十三：咸宁，[注]旧为南海，乾亨元年分咸宁、常康二县。常康、番禺、增城…”（台湾，成文出版社《中国方志丛书》第1号，110页）。
