明崇祯六年（1633年）割和平、河源、长宁、翁源四县地置，属惠州府，清因之（1）。治所即今广东省连平县（2）。1912年废府改县（3）。

（1），《明史》45?地理六?广东?惠州府?连平州：“本连平县。崇祯六年以和平县惠化都置，析长宁、河源二县及韶州府翁源县地益之。寻升为州。”（北京，中华书局，1974年，4册，1140页）。
《嘉庆一统志》卷445?惠州府?建置沿革?连平州：“崇祯六年割和平、河源、长宁及韶州府之翁源县地，置连平州，属惠州府。本朝因之。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，166册）。
（2），县治未见迁徙记载。据宣统元年《广东舆地全图》连平州图，连平州治即今广东省连平县。
（3），《中华民国行政区划简表》11?广东省：惠阳县，“旧归善县（旧惠州府附郭首县）。民元裁府留县并改名。”“连平县，旧连平州，民元改县。”（内政部编，商务印书馆，1947年，76页）。",
