刘玄更始元年（公元23年）由迁陆县复名。⑴治所在今湖南保靖县驻地迁陵镇东龙溪乡（乳香岩）南。⑵东汉属武陵郡。⑶三国吴、晋、南朝宋因之。⑷南朝齐改名零陵县。⑸
⑴⑵《水经?沅水注》：“酉水导源益州巴郡临江县，故武陵之充县酉源山，迳黚阳故县南，又东迳迁陵故县界，与西乡溪合，即延江之枝津，更始之下流，谓之西乡溪口。酉水又东迳迁陵县故城北，王莽更名曰迁陆也。”（《水经注疏》，江苏古籍出版社，下册，第3082页）
《湖南省志（修订本）》第二卷《地理志》第二篇《沿革》：“保靖县在汉为迁陵县。南北朝齐改为零陵县。梁省入大乡县。光绪《湖南通志》：‘案县志：县东乳香岩河岸，有地曰四方城，其遗址瓦砾犹存，即汉迁陵县故城。’（卷42）”（湖南人民出版社，上册，第707页）
据此，定在今湖南保靖县东龙溪乡（乳香岩）酉水南岸。
