一作延熹县。五代后晋天福七年（942）由延唐县更名。⑴治所在今湖南宁远县驻地舜陵镇。属道州。北宋乾德三年（965）改作宁远县。⑵
⑴《寰宇记》卷116《江南西道十四》：宁远县，“本汉泠道县地。……（唐）天宝元年又改为延唐县。梁改为延昌县。后唐同光初复旧。晋天复初改为延喜县，后复旧。”
《十国春秋》卷112：“延喜。唐为延唐，朱梁改为延昌，后唐同光时复名延唐，晋天福七年更名延喜。一作延熹。”
⑵《元丰九域志》卷6《荆湖路》：“乾德三年改延喜县为宁远，仍省大历县入焉。”（中华书局，第261页）
《舆地纪胜》卷58《荆湖路》：“《寰宇记》云：梁为延昌，后唐为延唐，晋改延熹。《国朝会要》云：乾德二年改为宁远。又云：三年，废大历来属。”（中华书局，第3册，第2090页）
