元元贞元年（1295）升龙阳县置，治所即今湖南汉寿县驻地城关镇。属常德路，领沅江县。⑴元至正二十四年（1364）朱元璋改属常德府。⑵明洪武三年三月甲辰（1370.4.11）降为县。⑶
