北宋乾德三年（965）改安仁场置。⑴治安仁镇（在今湖南安仁县驻地城关镇西南）。⑵咸平五年（1002）迁今治。

嘉庆《清一统志》卷362《衡州府一》：“安仁场，在安仁县西南三十里。本唐安仁镇，后唐置场。宋干德间升为县。淳化中徙治永安镇之香草坪。今为宜阳乡。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，134册，18页）
嘉靖《衡州府志》卷2：《山川名胜》“宜阳江，在宜阳里。”卷3《古迹》：“安仁旧治，在宜阳乡，县令高岳迁。”按：宜阳里、宜阳乡，当因宜阳江得名。今安仁县西有宜阳河，即宜阳江。参考距离，暂定点在安仁县西南宜阳江东侧、洋阳乡东南。",
