唐神龙元年（705）以隆武县改名。⑴治所在今湖南临武县驻地城关镇东北9公里土地乡南、武水北。属郴州。天宝元年（742）属桂阳郡，乾元元年（758）属郴州。⑵五代晋天福四年（939）废，地入平阳县。⑶
