南宋建炎四年（1130）迁治今湖南安化县驻地东坪镇东南梅城镇。⑴属潭州。元至元十四年（1277）属潭州路，天历二年（1329）属天临路。⑵元至正二十四年（1364）朱元璋改属潭州府。明洪武五年六月戊戌（1372.7.18）属长沙府。⑶至清末未变。⑷
⑴嘉靖《长沙府志》卷4《建置纪》：“安化县治，始于宋熙宁间，初立于北桥之东，至建炎中迁于清塘乡之北岸。”（中国书店，《稀见中国地方志汇刊》，第37册，第95页）
嘉庆《清一统志》卷355《长沙府二》：“安化故城在今安化县东启安坪。宋置。明迁今治。……府志：安化故治，在伊溪之东，宋建炎中迁伊溪西。元至正中毁于兵，明洪武中始开设今治。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，第132册，第3页）
裴淮昌主编：《湖南古今地名辞典》：“安化县……治所最初在今启安坪，南宋建炎四年（1130年。一说明洪武时）迁今梅城。”（湖南出版社，1993年，第374页）
据此，暂定宋建炎四年（1130）迁治。启安坪，《湖南古今地名辞典》内的《安化县地名图》标于梅城镇北侧。
⑵明?宋廉等：《元史》卷63《地理六》：“天临路，上。唐为潭州长沙郡。宋为湖南安抚司。元至元十三年，立安抚司。十四年，立行省，改潭州路总管府。十八年，迁行省于鄂州。徙湖南道宣慰司治潭州。天历二年，以潜邸所幸，改天临路。”（中华书局，1976年校点本，第5册，第1527-1528页）
