唐天宝元年（742）改安陵县置。⑴治所在今湖南永兴县驻地城关镇西高亭乡（高亭司）。⑵属桂阳郡。乾元元年（758）属郴州。⑶五代晋天福初属敦州。汉乾祐时复属郴州。⑷北宋熙宁六年（1073）改名永兴县。⑸
⑴晋?刘昫：《旧唐书》卷40《地理三》：“高亭，……开元十三年，宇文融析郴县北界四乡置安陵县。天宝元年，改为高亭，取县东山名。”（北京，中华书局，1975年，第5册，第1618页）
⑵万历《郴州志》卷7《古迹》：“安陵城，在永兴县西五十里，即今高亭巡检司。”（上海古籍书店，《天一阁藏明代方志选刊》，第58册）
《读史方舆纪要》卷82《湖广八》：“安陵城，县西南五十里。今县治即汉便县城也。唐析郴县置安陵县，寻曰高亭，皆治此。宋熙宁中，太守李士燮以古便县基据郴江上，舟楫往来，贸易相通，可建邑居而设场市，乃更徙治焉，名曰永兴。今安陵城址尚存，周一里有奇，亦谓之高亭城，置高亭镇，有巡司戍守。”（中华书局，第4册，第3498页）

按：因是避庙讳而改名，当在五代晋天福元年（936）。五代汉暂作乾祐元年（948）改。
