宋端拱元年（988年）升安仁场置，属饶州（1）。元至元十四年（1277年）属饶州路（2），至正二十一年（1361年）朱元璋属鄱阳府，旋（1362年）属饶州府（3）。清至1911年不改。治今江西余江县（邓埠镇）北锦江镇（4）。
