北宋太平兴国三年（978年）置星子县，属江州，七年（982年）置南康军于此（1）。元至元十四年（1354年）为南康路治（2）,至正二十一年（1361年）为西宁府治，二十二年为南康府治（3），清不改，1912年废府留县（4）。即今星子县（5）。
