唐武德五年（622年）置，属南昌州，八年（625年）废（1）。故址在今江西永修西北修水冲积扇上端一带（2）。

（2)《清嘉庆一统志》卷317《南康府二·古迹》永修废县：“按旧志，谓在安义县西南四十里靖安县界，今考《水经注》县为修水所经，当在建昌县西南。”（商务印书馆，1934年，《四部丛刊续编》，116册，1页。）《永修县志》云，永修故城，相传在滩溪和安义县徐埠交界处。（江西南昌市，江西人民出版社，1987年，第四篇第六章第二节古迹，485页。）按：此县确址无考，上引各说，均与《水经注》不合，据《注》县为修水（今名同）所经，西有豫宁县（今武宁西），东有海昏县（今永修西北艾城），则古永修应在今武宁、永修之间，今姑定于武宁、永修适中之地，武宁东修水出山口处的永修境柘林镇附近。",
