三国吴太平二年（257年）分临汝县置，属临川郡。（1）治所在今江西乐安县东北古城。（2）二晋及南朝宋、齐不改。（3）梁大通二年（528年）改属巴山郡。（4）陈同。（5）隋开皇九年（589年）废入崇仁县。（6）

（2）《太平寰宇记》卷110《江南西道八·抚州》崇仁县：“废新建县，在县西南九十五里。”（金陵书局，光绪八年刊本，21册，8页）清《嘉庆一统志》卷322《抚州府一·古迹》新建废县：“在崇仁县西南。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，118册，17页）按：宋、清崇仁县，即今县。今乐安县东北有古城，（《江西省地图集》，江西省地图编辑委员会，1963年，94、95页）也即在崇仁县西南。里数虽不合《太平寰宇记》所载，但方向同，又有古城，姑作为新建县治此。
