唐武德五年（622年）析崇仁县置，属抚州。（1）治所在今江西宜黄县黄水东。（2）八年（625年）废。（3）

（2）清尤迟章等修《宜黄县志》（一）卷1《疆域志·县治考》：邑本临汝旧地，治当宜、黄二水之交，故名。县初治水东，或言水西形胜尤佳。故北宋开宝元年（968年）邑人胥仕隆捐祖宅为之县治，即所谓黄填镇,即今治，在水西。复于旧治建故县庙以镇之，今不可考，惟水东百花洲有小庙，名故县，岂其遗乎。（《中国方志丛书》，台湾成文出版社,据清康熙三年刊本影印，1989年，790册，73、74页）据牛平汉《清代政区沿革综表》谓，清宜黄县即今宜黄县。（北京，中国地图出版社，1990年，180页）则北宋开宝元年前，宜黄县治当在今江西宜黄县黄水东。
