隋开皇十一年（591年）迁置，治所即今江西宜春市东五里。为袁州治。（1）十八年（598年）改名宜春县。（2）
注：
（1）《隋书》卷31《地理志下》宜春郡：“平陈，置袁州。”领有宜阳县。（北京，中华书局，1973年，3册，880页）唐李吉甫《元和郡县图志》卷28《江南道四·袁州》宜春县：晋改为宜阳县。“隋开皇十一年（591年），于县置袁州，移县于城东五里。”（北京，中华书局，1983年，下册，678页）按：隋平陈在开皇九年（589年），《隋志》作开皇九年置袁州。但《元和郡县图志》叙说更具体，故作开皇十一年置袁州。又原宜阳县治在今江西宜春市，现为袁州治，县徙州治东五里，则在今江西宜春市东五里。
（2）《隋书》卷31《地理志下·宜春郡》宜春：“旧曰宜阳。开皇十一年废吴平县入，十八年（598年）改名也。”（北京，中华书局，1973年，3册，880页）而唐李吉甫《元和郡县图志》卷28《江南道四·袁州》宜春县：晋改为宜阳县，隋开皇十一年（591年），“复改为宜春县。”（北京，中华书局，1983年，下册，678页）又《太平寰宇记》卷109《江南西道七·袁州》宜春县：隋开皇“十七年（597年）改宜阳为宜春。”（金陵书局，光绪八年刊本，21册，3页）均与之异。",
