清乾隆八年（1743年）分永新、安福县部分地置，（1）属吉安府。（2）治所即今江西莲花县。（3）1912年改为莲花县。（4）

（1）清李其昌纂修《莲花厅志》（一）卷2《舆地志·沿革》：乾隆八年（1743年）置莲花厅。建厅之初，割永新县安仁乡等二十个都及割安福县昆弟乡等十二个都分置为砻西、上西二乡属之。（《中国方志丛书》，台湾成文出版社,据清乾隆二十五年刊本影印，1989年，883册，332——335页）
