东晋太兴元年（318年），晋陵郡和丹徒县并迁治京口，即今镇江市。东晋咸和三年（328年）复迁还治今丹徒县东丹徒镇（1）。

（1）《宋书》卷35《州郡志一》：晋陵郡，“太兴初，（晋陵）郡及丹徒县悉治京口，郗鉴复徙还丹徒。”（北京，中华书局，1974年，4册，1040页）考《资治通鉴》卷94《晋纪十六》：咸和三年（328年），陶侃表郗鉴都督扬州八郡诸军事，“侃乃令鉴与后将军郭默还据京口。”（北京，中华书局，1956年，7册，2957、2959页）则丹徒县迁还丹徒旧县（今丹徒县东丹徒镇），当在咸和三年郗鉴都督扬州八郡诸军事据京口时。",
