唐开元二十六年（738年）析鄮县置，元元贞元年（1295年年）升为奉化州，治今浙江奉化市。
唐开元二十六年（738年）析鄮县置，属明州，天宝元年（742年）属余姚郡，乾元元年（758年）复属明州（1）。五代吴越同（2）。北宋太平兴国三年（978年）钱氏归宋，照旧不改。南宋绍熙五年（1194年）属庆元府（3）。元至元十四年（1277年）属庆元路，元贞元年（1295年年）升为奉化州（4）。治今浙江奉化市（5）。
