汉高帝五年（前202）平江南：“项籍败垓下也，婴以御史大夫将车骑别追项籍至东城，破之。……下东城、历阳。度江，破吴郡长吴下，得吴守，遂定吴、豫章、会稽郡。”（东汉·班固：《汉书》卷41《灌婴传》；北京，中华书局，1962年，西北大学历史系校点本，6册，1590页）故暂定在汉高帝五年（前202）置县。
