宋淳化五年（967年），以上杭场置县，属汀州1。治所在今福建永定县东北六十里2。至道二年（996年），迁治鳖沙3。

1，《宋史》卷89·地理五·福建路·汀州：“淳化五年，以上杭、武平二场并为县。”领县五：上杭县，“有钟寮金场。天圣二年，徙治锺寮场东。乾道四年，徙治郭下。”（北京，中华书局，1977年，7册，2209页）。
2，《太平寰宇记》卷102·江南东道十四·汀州·：“上杭场，州南去八日程，接漳州界。”（金陵书局，光绪八年刊本，20册）。《嘉庆一统志》卷434·汀州府二·古迹·上杭故县：“旧《志》，唐析龙岩县胡雷下堡，置上杭场，在今永定县东四十余里金丰乡。南唐保大十三年，徙场于秇梓堡，在今永定县东北六十里。宋淳化五年，升场为县。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，160册）。牛平汉《清代政区沿革综表》福建省·汀州府·永定县·治所今址：“福建省永定县。”（北京，中国地图出版社，1990年171页）。据此，上杭县初置之上杭场（秇梓堡），当在今福建永定县东北六十里。未刊稿《福建省志·自然地理志》附录·建置沿革及考证，定点于“今永定县东北高陂北山”，方位、里距符合，当有所据，从之。
