唐长安二年（702年）置1。治所在今福建霞浦县南古县2。初属泉州，景云二年（711年）属闽州，开元十三年（725年）属福州3。天宝元年（742年），改为长溪县4。

1，《太平寰宇记》卷100·江南东道12·福州·长溪县：唐“长安二年又置温麻县，以县界有温麻溪为名。天宝元年改为长溪县。”（金陵书局，光绪八年刊本，19册）。
2，《读史方舆纪要》卷96·福建二·福宁州：“温麻废县，州南三十里。唐改置温麻县于今连江县境，而以废县地置长溪县。今州南有鼓楼山古城，盖因废县为名。”（北京，中华书局，1955年，5册，4012页）。明福宁州、清霞浦县治即今霞浦县。《福建省地图册》霞浦县幅，霞浦县南有地名“古县”。（福建省地图出版社，1982年，134页）。此“古县”当是温麻废县治所。
