元元贞元年（1295年）升盐官县为盐官州。属杭州路。①治所今浙江海宁市南盐官镇。②天历二年（1329年）改为海宁州。③
①《元史》卷62《地理志五》：“杭州路，……元至元十三年，平江南，立两浙都督府，又改为安抚司。十五年，改为杭州路总管府。”“海宁州，唐以来为盐官县。元元贞元年，以户口繁多，升为盐官州。泰定四年，海圮盐官。天历二年，改为海宁州。”（第5册，1491—1492页）
②康熙十三年《海宁县志》卷12《名迹》：“海昌府治。《吴录地理》：盐官本海昌。《宋图经》云：海昌府周围五里，高六尺，阔一丈。今失其所。盐官城。隋大业十三年筑，在今县西北四十一里。周围六百步，高八尺。唐永徽六年改筑今县治。”《清嘉庆一统志》第101册，卷284《杭州府二·古迹》：“盐官故城：今海宁州治。”
