唐乾元元年（758年），以临潭郡更名。领临江，波零，郜山，弘远等县。州治临江县，治所即今广西上思县西南平福乡。辖境相当今广西宁明县中东部地区和上思县西部地区。贞元二十一年（805年）废为邕州羁縻州。

1，《旧唐书》卷41?地理4?瀼州：“贞观十二年，清平公李弘节遣钦州首领宁师经置瀼州。天宝元年改为临潭郡，乾元元年复为瀼州。领县四：临江，州所治也，波零，郜山，弘远，与州同置。”（中华书局，1975年，5册，1748页）。
《唐书》卷43下?地理上：瀼州临潭郡：“贞观十二年，清平公李弘节开夷僚置。县四：瀼江，波零，郜山，弘远。贞观后，州县名存而以”。（中华书局，1975年，5册，1105页）。
