唐天宝元年（742年），以粤州更名1。领龙水、崖山、东玺、天河等县。州治龙水县，治所即今广西宜山县。辖境相当今广西宜山县中部和罗城县西南部地区2。乾元元年（758年），更名宜州3。

1，《旧唐书》卷41?地理4?粤州：“唐置粤州，失起置年月。天宝元年改为龙水郡，乾元元年复为粤州。领县四：龙水，州所治也；崖山；东玺；天河。皆与州同置。”（中华书局，1975年，5册，1751页）。
《唐书》卷43上?地理7上?宜州龙水郡：“唐开置，本粤州，乾封中（按：据《旧唐书》当为乾元中，姑作乾元元年）更名。县四：龙水、崖山、东玺、天河。”（中华书局，1975年，5册，1104页）。
《太平寰宇记》卷168?岭南道12?宜州：龙水县；崖山县；东玺县：在州“西六十里，都龙山在县北三十步”；天河县：“原州西北八十里，元和八年移于龙水县古波里，在州北一百七十里”。“以上四县，唐贞观四年置。”（金陵书局，光绪八年刊本，30册）。
