唐乾元元年（758年），以宁普郡更名1。领宁浦，乐山，淳风（永贞元年更名从化）等县。州治宁浦县，治所即今广西横县。辖境相当今广西横县东部地区2。宋开宝六年（973年）废峦州武灵、罗竹二县入永定县来属，境域扩大3。

1，《旧唐书》卷41?地理4?横州：“隋郁林郡之宁普县。武德四年置简州，领宁浦，乐山，蒙泽，淳风，岭山五县。六年改为南简州。贞观八年改为横州，天宝元年改为宁浦郡，乾元元年复为横州也。”宁浦县，“州所治。”（中华书局，1975年，5册，1739页）。
《唐书》卷43上?地理7上?横州宁浦郡：“本简州，武德四年，以郁林郡之宁普、乐山置。六年曰南简州，贞观八年更名。县三：宁铺，武德四年析置蒙泽县，五年以贵州之领山来属（本图作四年处理），贞观十二年省蒙泽入焉，后又省领山；从化，本淳风，武德四年析宁浦置，永贞元年更名；乐山。”（中华书局，1975年，5册，1103页）。
《元和郡县图志》卷38?岭南道5?横州治所宁浦县：“至德移于旧州东七里郁江北岸。”（北京，中华书局，1983年，下册，951页）。即今广西横县治。
