唐乾元元年（758年），以平琴郡更名1。领容山、怀义、福阳、古符四县。州治容山县，治所即今广西玉林市西北大宅村。辖境相当今广西兴业县蒲塘镇以东，北市镇、卖酒乡以西地区2。建中二年（781年）州废，县皆还属党州3。

1，《旧唐书》卷41?地理4?平琴州：“汉郁林县地。唐置平琴州，无年月。领县四。天宝元年改为平琴州，乾元元年复为州。建中并入党州，今存。领县四：容山，州所治，本名安仁，至德年改也。怀义，福阳，古符三县与州同置。”党州：“秦置桂林郡，汉为郁林郡。唐置党州，失起置年月。与平琴州同土俗。西至平琴州二十二里。天宝元年以党州为宁仁郡，乾元元年复为党州。建中二年二月，废平琴州并入。领县四。（校勘记：此下有脱文。《通典》卷184党州领善劳、抚安、善文、宁仁四县）。”（中华书局，1975年，5册，1732、1739、1777页）。
《唐书》卷43上?地理7上?党州仁宁郡：“本郁林州地，永淳元年开古党洞置。…县八：抚安。善劳。善文。宁仁。容山，本安仁，永淳二年析党州置平琴州平琴郡，领安仁、怀义、福阳、古符四县，垂拱三年废，神龙三年复置，至德中更安仁曰容山，建中二年州废，县皆来属。怀义。福阳。古符。”（中华书局，1975年，5册，1110页）。
