唐天宝元年（742年），以梧州更名1。领苍梧、孟陵、戎城等县。州治苍梧县，治所即今广西梧州市。辖境相当今苍梧市和苍梧县地区2。乾元元年（758年），复为梧州3。

1，《旧唐书》卷41?地理4?梧州：“隋苍梧郡。武德四年，平萧铣置梧州，领苍梧、豪静、开江三县。贞观八年，割滕州之孟陵，贺州之绥越来属。十三年废豪静。天宝元年，改为苍梧郡。乾元元年，复为梧州也。”（中华书局，1975年，5册，1728页）。
《唐书》卷43上?地理7上：梧州，“武德四年，以静州之苍梧、豪静、开江置。…县三：苍梧，贞观八年以贺州之绥越来属，十二年省静豪，其后又省绥越，而开江复隶富川；戎城，本隶滕州，永徽中来属，光化四年马殷表以隶桂州；孟陵，本猛陵，隶滕州，萧铣置，贞观八年来属，更名，光化中，马殷表以隶桂州。”富州，“本静州龙平郡，武德四年，以始安郡之龙平、静豪，苍梧郡之苍梧置，贞观八年更名。县三：龙平，武德四年析置博劳、归化、安乐、开江四县，寻以苍梧、豪静、开江隶梧州，九年省安乐、归化、博劳；思勤，天宝后置；马江，本开江，后隶梧州，又隶柳州，长庆三年更名。”（中华书局，1975年，5册，1106页）。
