梁天监元年（502年）析桂林郡置1。郡治阳寿县，治所即今广西象州县。辖境相当今广西象州县西部地区2。隋开皇十年（590年）郡废3。

1，《隋书》卷31地理下：“始安郡，梁置桂州，平陈置总管府，大业元年废府。统县十五：…阳寿，有马平、桂林、象、韶阳等四郡，平陈并废。又有淮阳县，开皇十八年改曰阳宁，大业初省入焉；…。”（中华书局，1973年，3册，883页）。梁天监元年（502年）析置马平郡、韶阳郡、象郡。
