隋开皇十八（598年）年，以安州改名（1）。领宋寿、安京、宋广等县。州治钦江县，治所即今广西钦州市东北高沙村。辖境相当今广东钦州市、灵山县和邕宁县东部地区（2）。大业三年（607年）改为宁越郡，并废玉州来属（3）。

（1），《隋书》卷31?地理下?宁越郡：“梁置安州，开皇十八年改曰钦州。统县六：钦江，旧置宋寿郡。平陈郡废。开皇十八年改曰钦江，大业初置宁越郡；安京，旧置安京郡，平陈郡废。内亭，旧置宋广郡，平陈郡废，十七年改曰新化县，十八年改名焉。”（北京，中华书局，1973年，3册，883页）。
