唐武德五年（622年）析置（1）。领内亭、遵化二县。州治内亭县，治所在今广西灵山县西南陆屋镇。辖境相当今广西灵山县和邕宁县那丰、那楼、那路、那别、那陈、百济地区（2）。贞观二年（628年），州废，县改属钦州（3）。

（1），《旧唐书》卷41?岭南道?钦州：“隋宁越郡。武德四年平萧铣，改为钦州总管府，管一州，领钦江、安京、南宾、遵化、内亭五县。五年置如和县。其年，置玉（山）州、南亭州，并隶钦州，以内亭、遵化二县属亭州。贞观元年，罢都督府。二年废亭州，复以内亭、遵化并来属。十年，省海平县。天宝元年，改为宁越郡。乾元元年，复为钦州也。旧领县七，天宝领县五。”钦江县：“州所治。汉合浦县地，宋分置宋寿郡及宋寿县。梁置安州，隋改为钦州，仍改宋寿县为钦江。炀帝改为宁越郡。皆治钦江也。”（北京，中华书局，1975年，5册，1746页）。
