宋绍兴十年（1140年）复置（1）。领封川，开建二县。州治封川县，治所即今广东省封开县封川镇。辖境相当今广东省封开县境域（2）。元至元十六年（1279年），改为封州路（3）。

（1），《宋史》卷90?地理六?广南东路?封州：“绍兴七年，省州，以二县（封川、开建）隶德庆府。十年，复旧。”（北京，中华书局，1977年，7册，2238页）。
（2），据所领封川，开建二县故址，据此并参考宣统元年《广东舆地全图》，辖境相当今广东省封开县境域。
（3），《元史》卷62?地理五?江西等处行中书省?广东道宣慰使司都元帅府?封州：“元至元十三年归附。明年，广人叛，广西巡抚司以兵定之，遂隶西道。十六年，立封州路总管府，后又降为散州，仍隶东道。”领县二：封川、开建。（中华书局，1976年，5册，1518页）。",
