唐天祐元年（904年），以辩州更名，属岭南道（1）。领石龙、陵罗二县。州治石龙县，治所即今广东省化州县。境域相当今广东省化州县境（大坡以西北的平定河流域除外）（2）。天祐四年（908年）复故名辩州（3）。

（1），《唐书》卷43上?地理7：“辩州陵水郡。本南石州石龙郡，武德六年，以罗州之石龙、陵罗、龙化、罗辩、慈廉、罗肥置。贞观九年更名。天祐元年，朱全忠以‘辩’、‘汴’声近，表更名勋州。县二：石龙，贞观元年省慈廉、罗肥二县入焉。陵罗。”（北京，中华书局，1975年，4册，1099页）。
（2），石龙县治所即今广东省化州县，陵罗县治所即今广东省化州县北合江镇，龙化县治所在今广东省化州县西北文楼镇，罗辩县治所在广东省化州县西北播扬镇，慈廉县治所在今广东省化州县西北中垌镇。据以上各县治所均在今化州县境内，作辩州境域相当今广东省化州县全境。大历八年析出之龙化县地，相当今化州县大坡以西北的平定河流域。
（3），《舆地纪胜》卷116?化州：唐天祐元年辩州“更名勋州，寻复故，五代为南汉所有。”（北京，中华书局，1992年，4册，3414页）。今作唐末天祐四年复故名辩州。",
