宋咸平元年（998年），以太平军改置，属广南西路（1）。领合浦、石康二县。州治和浦县，治所即今广西合浦县。辖境相当今广西北海市，合浦县，浦北县境域。（2）。元至元十七年（1280年）改为廉州路（3）。

（1），《宋史》卷90?地理六?广南西路?廉州，合浦郡：“开宝五年，废封山、蔡龙、大廉三县，移治于长沙场，置石康县。太平兴国八年，改太平军，移治海门镇。咸平元年复。县二：合浦；石康，本常乐州，宋并为县。”（北京，中华书局，1977年，7册，2245页）。
（2），所领二县，未见境域变迁记载，据宣统元年《广东舆地全图》，辖境相当今广西北海市，合浦县，浦北县境域。
（3），《元史》卷63?地理六?湖广等处行中书省?海北海南道宣慰司?廉州路：“唐为合浦郡，又改廉州。元至元十七年设总管府。领县二：合浦，倚郭；石康”。（中华书局，1976年，5册，1538页）。",
