宋政和七年（1117年），以朱崖军更名，属广南西路（1）。军治宁远县，治所即今海南省三亚市西崖城镇。辖境相当今海南省三亚市，保亭县毛感、三道地区，通什市毛道地区，以及乐东县（白沙河流域除外）（2）。绍兴六年（1136年）废军为县，改属琼州（3）。

（1），《舆地纪胜》卷125?广南西路?吉阳军：熙宁六年改崖州为朱崖军，又废吉阳、宁远二县为临川、藤桥二镇。政和七年改朱崖军为吉阳军，合故二县地复置宁远一县。（北京，中华书局，1992年，4册，3619页）。
（2），所领二县故地，据宣统元年《广东舆地全图》，辖境相当今海南省三亚市，保亭县毛感、三道地区，通什市毛道地区，以及乐东县（白沙河流域除外）。
