"source note" : "淮南郡（464-588年）治所和界线
东晋咸和元年（326年）分丹阳尹于湖侨置淮南郡（1），治于湖县（今安徽当涂县南三十八里）。义熙七年（411年）改上党郡为县，属淮南郡，辖境扩大（2）。刘宋大明六年（462年）撤淮南郡，辖地属宣城郡。大明八年（464年）复置淮南郡。隋开皇九年（589年）平陈，淮南郡废，地入丹阳（时年改名为蒋州）。
（1），《乾隆大清一統志》卷84：“晉初分置于湖縣仍屬丹陽郡。咸和初（故作元年326年）始分丹楊，於于湖僑置淮南郡。……，（刘）宋大明……六年（462年）改淮南置宣城郡，八年（464年）復曰淮南郡。…隋平陳郡廢改縣曰當塗仍屬丹陽郡”。
（2），《晋书》卷15《地理志下》扬州后序：“成帝初，苏峻、祖约为乱於江淮，胡寇又大至，百姓南渡者转多，乃於江南侨立淮南郡及诸县，……孝武宁康二年，……是时上党百姓南渡，侨立上党郡为四县，寄居芜湖。寻又省上党郡为县，又罢襄城郡为繁昌县，并以属淮南。”（第2册，463-464页）《宋书》卷35《州郡志一》：淮南太守：“成帝初，苏峻、祖约为乱於江淮，胡寇又大至，民南度江者转多，乃於江南侨立淮南郡及诸县，晋末遂割丹阳于湖县为淮南境。宋孝武大明六年，以淮南郡并宣城，宣城郡徙治于湖。八年复立淮南郡，属南豫州。明帝泰始三年，还属扬州。”“襄垣令，其地本芜湖，芜湖县，汉旧县。至于晋末，立襄垣县，属上党郡。上党民南过江，侨立郡县，寄治芜湖，后省上党郡为县。文帝元嘉九年，省上党县并襄垣。”何时省上党郡为县，暂无明证，《清嘉庆一统志》第40册，卷120《太平府一古迹》：谓“义熙中，省上党为县。宋元嘉九年省上党入襄垣县，属淮南郡。”姑从之。义熙中，姑作义熙七年（411年）。
