五代梁龙德元年（921年）分置江州为奉化军节度使后置。治洪州（今江西南昌市）。（1）领有洪、吉、袁、信州。（2）周显德六年（959年）改为南都南昌府留守。（3）
注：
（1）司马光《资治通鉴》卷271《后梁纪六》龙德元年（921年）：十月“乙丑，大赦；加徐知诰同平章事，领江州观察使。寻以江州为奉化军，以知诰领节度使。（北京，中华书局，1956年，19册，8869页）按：龙德元年，江州不属镇南军节度使。又司马光《资治通鉴》卷250《唐纪六十六》咸通六年：“五月，辛丑，置镇南军于洪州。”（北京，中华书局，1956年，17册，8111页）按：治所当不改。
（2）《新唐书》卷68《方镇表五》乾元元年（758年）：置洪吉都防御团练观察处置使，领洪、吉、虔、抚、袁五州，治洪州。又上元元年（760年）：“洪吉观察使增领信州。”贞元四年（788年）：“江南西道观察使增领江州。”（北京，中华书局，1975年，6册，1903、1904、1910页）按：所领州当不改。《新五代史》卷60《职方考第三》，吴及南唐均有以上七州，镇南军节度使治洪州（今江西南昌市）。按：开平三年已不领虔州、抚州二州，现又不领江州。
（3）司马光《资治通鉴》卷294《后周纪五》周显德六年（959年）：“唐更命洪州曰南昌府，建南都，以武清节度使何敬洙为南都留守。”（北京，中华书局，1956年，20册，9606页）朱玉龙《五代十国方镇年表?洪州》曰：镇南军节度使，“唐旧镇，天祐三年并归淮南杨氏有，仍以为镇南节度使。后周显德六年十一月，南唐以洪州为南昌府，建南都；节度使改称留守、尹。”（北京，中华书局，1997年，440页）",
