三国吴宝鼎元年（266年）析零陵郡置。⑴治昭陵县（今湖南邵阳市城区）。⑵大致辖昭陵、都梁、夫夷、昭阳、高平、新城等县。⑶西晋武帝时改作邵陵郡。⑷
按：本时期的界线，一无详细的历史描述的记载，二与明清的政区范围无承袭关系，只能根据当时各县分布及与邻区的相对关系以及自然地理环境确定。
西界：
在今湖南洞口县东南蓼水与资水交汇处以北有建兴县，在今武冈县驻地有武冈县，因此，邵陵郡的西界当在今雪峰山一线。
北界：
在今湖南隆回县北高坪镇石脚村有高平县，在今邵东县东建有邵阳县、新城县；衡阳郡在今涟水南侧建有连道县。因此，北界当在今新化县北、资水南一线，东南向经今邵东县北、涟水南。
东界：
东与衡阳郡、零陵郡接界。东北部在今邵东县东有邵阳、新城两县，衡阳郡在今邵东县东端蒸水北侧建有烝阳县，因此，东北部郡界当在今邵东县东部。东南向经今邵阳县东部，沿今夫夷水东、越城岭西，西南向接南界。
南界：
最南部的县为武冈县，政区较少。现暂按今新宁县、城步苗族自治县南部的湖南省界画出。

吴增仅、杨守敬：《三国郡县表附考证》引《方舆纪要》作昭陵郡有昭陵、都梁、夫夷、昭阳、高平、新城等县。（《二十五史补编》，第3册，2954页。）
按：“邵”字为晋武帝时避司马昭讳而改名，三国吴时当为昭陵郡。西晋武帝时改名，因无具体时间，暂作太康元年（280）。
