元至正二十二年(1362年）改抚州路置，治临川县(今江西临川市)。领临川、崇仁、金溪、宜黄、乐安县。明正德七年(1512年)增领东乡县。（1）至清末治所和名称不变

（1）《明史》卷43《地理志四·江西》抚州府：“元抚州路，属江西行省。太祖壬寅年（1362年）正月为临川府，寻曰抚州府。”治临川县(今江西临川市)。领临川、崇仁、金溪、宜黄、乐安、东乡县。并在东乡县下曰：“正德七年(1512年）八月以临川县之孝冈置，析金溪、进贤、余干、安仁四县地益之。”（北京，中华书局，1974年，4册，1061页）按：当正德七年前，抚州府未领有东乡县。《明实录》（一）《明太祖实录》卷10：壬寅年（元至正二十二年即公元1362年）乙卯月，“改抚州路为临川府，建昌路为肇庆府，未几皆复其旧。”（台湾，中央研究院历史语言研究所校印,125页)按：据《明太祖实录》，乙卯月改抚州路为临川府，又复为抚州路。则临川府存在时间不足一月，故图上不见。",
