唐乾元元年（758年），以漳浦郡改置，属福建都防御使1。州治漳浦县，即今福建漳浦县，领县二：漳浦、龙溪2。辖境相当今福建漳浦、平和、诏安、云霄、东山以及龙海、南靖、华安和漳州市境域。乾元二年（759年），移州治于龙溪县，即今福建漳州市3。

1，《旧唐书》卷40·地理三·江南东道·漳州：“垂拱二年十二月九日置。天宝元年，改为漳浦郡。旧属岭南道，天宝割属江南东道。乾元元年，复为漳州。”“漳浦，垂拱二年十二月，与州同置。州所治。”“龙溪，旧属泉州。圣历二年，属武荣州。景云二年，还泉州。开元二十九年，属漳州。”（北京，中华书局，1975年，3册，1601页）。《新唐书》卷68·方镇五·福建：开元二十一年“置福建经略使，领福、泉、漳、潮五州，治福州。”开元二十二年“福建经略使增领汀州，漳、潮二州隶岭南道经略使。”天宝元年“福建经略使复领漳、潮二州。”天宝十载“漳、潮二州隶岭南经略使。”乾元元年“改福建经略使为都防御使兼宁海军使。”（北京，中华书局，1975年，6册，1899-1903页）。
