南朝梁太清三年（549年）分吴郡海盐、胥浦二县置武原郡。治海盐（今浙江海盐县东南300步）。承圣元年（552年）废。①
①谭其骧《海盐县的建置沿革、县治迁移和辖境变迁》：“《梁书?侯景传》：太清三年六月，‘景乃分吴郡海盐、胥浦二县为武原郡。’罢郡确年无考。置郡九年后陈永定二年，‘割吴郡盐官、海盐、前京三县置海宁郡。’见《陈书·高祖纪》，知此前海盐已还属吴郡，武原郡必已废。颇疑当废于置郡后三年侯景败亡之际，《清统志》嘉兴府表谓‘陈废’，未必有据。《隋书·地理志》盐官县下不及海宁郡，则海宁郡当废于隋开皇平陈之前。”（《长水集》续编，276页）
武原郡（549-551年）界线
其界线大致南界较今钱塘江而南，包有今王盘山、大小金山一线，西界即今浙江海盐县、平湖县界，西北界约在旧松江县、上海县、川沙县治北入海。",
