东汉建安十四年（209年）迁治置。治公安县（今湖北公安县北）。（1）领有零陵、桂阳、武陵、长沙等郡。建安十五年（210年）又领汉昌郡。（2）建安二十四年（219年）迁治江陵县（今湖北江陵县）。（3）
注：
（1）《三国志》卷47《吴书?孙权传》建安十四年（209年）：“（刘）备领荆州牧，屯公安（今湖北公安县北）。”（北京，中华书局，1975年，5册，1118页）又《太平寰宇记》卷146《山南东道五?荆州》公安县：即后汉作唐县地，属吴之南郡。《荆州记》云：“吴大帝推先主为左将军荆州牧，镇油口，即居此城。时号先主为‘公’，故名其城为公安。”（金陵书局，光绪八年刊本）
（2）《后汉书》志第22《郡国志四》荆州领有南阳郡、南郡、江夏郡、零陵郡、桂阳郡、武陵郡、长沙郡。（北京,中华书局，1965年，12册，3476——3485页）《三国志?吴志?孙权传》：建安十五年（210年），“分长沙为汉昌郡，以鲁肃为太守，屯陆口。”（北京,中华书局，1975年，5册，1118页）后又废入长沙郡。据李晓杰《东汉政区地理》谓：“至建安二十四年，关羽败，荆州属吴，……此后遂不闻汉昌郡之名，故颇疑汉昌郡废于此时，汉昌属县亦当随之还属长沙。”（山东教育出版社，济南，1999年，213页）则荆州当时领有零陵、桂阳、武陵、长沙、汉昌等郡。
（3）《通典》卷171《州郡一?序目上》“吴主北据江，南尽海，置交、广、荆、郢、扬五州。”“荆治南郡，今江陵郡。”（北京，中华书局，1988年，4册，4458页）清吴增僅撰、杨守敬補正《三国郡县表附考証》卷8《吴荆州》荆州：“建安二十四年（219年），吕蒙袭破关侯，荆州江南诸郡复为吴有，吴遂与魏对置荆州。治乐乡。”（《二十五史补编》，北京，中华书局，1956年，3册，2947页）按：南郡治江陵。当作建安二十四年，吴荆州迁治江陵县（今湖北江陵县）。“治乐乡”其说不同。",
