唐上元二年（761年）置，治宣州（今安徽宣州市）。领有润、江、苏、常、杭、湖、宣、歙、饶九州。（1）大历元年（766年）罢领宣、歙二州。（2）
注：
（1）《新唐书》卷68《方镇表五》：上元二年（761年），“浙江西道观察使徙治宣州（今安徽宣州市），罢领昇州。”（北京，中华书局，1975年，6册，1904页）按：清吴廷燮《唐方镇年表》（二）卷5《浙西》，此时未见浙江西道节度使。当作此年废节度使。（北京，中华书局，1980年，2册，743页）又本领昇、润等十州，现罢领昇州，则领有润、江、苏、常、杭、湖、宣、歙、饶九州。
