梁承圣二年（553年）复置江南南豫州，治姑孰(今安徽当涂)。时南豫州领有陈留、南丹阳、宣城、南陵等郡。①陈永定二年（558年）南陵郡分置北江州。②
①《太平寰宇记》卷103宣州：“梁承圣元年复江南南豫州郡不废，历梁陈之代，亦为重镇。”（光绪金陵书局本）按：承圣元年（552年）正值侯景之乱，江南建康附近战乱特甚，似不能于当年置江南南豫州。《陈书》卷9《侯瑱传》：“及景败於巴陵，……以功除南豫州刺史，镇姑孰。承圣二年，……。”（第1册，154页）按侯景败于承圣元年（552年），见《资治通鉴》卷165。今从《陈书》。《陈书》卷1《高祖纪》:“太平二年(557年)……以南豫州之陈留、南丹阳、宣城,……封陈公."(第1册,20页)
②《隋书》卷31《地理志下》：宣城郡“南陵，梁置，并置南陵郡，陈置北江州。平陈，州郡并废。”（第3册，877页）《陈书》卷2《高祖纪下》：“（永定）二年，……十二月肥宁远将军、北江州刺史熊昙朗为开府仪同三司，进号平西将军。”（第1册，38页）此为北江州之首见。按：陈霸先梁太平二年（557年）十月禅位，改年号永定元年，置北江州姑定于次年永定二年（558年）。",
