在今上海金山县吕巷镇与廊下镇之间，约元代形成聚落，属华亭县。清顺治十三年（1656）属娄县，雍正二年（1724）属金山县，至今不变。⑴
⑴清常琬修、焦以敬等纂：乾隆《金山县志》卷1《镇市》：“南陆市在五保吕巷镇之东南。元高士陆居仁居此，故名。”（清乾隆十七年（1752）刻本，1929年影印乾隆本，9页）
清龚宝琦修、黄厚本等纂：光绪《金山县志》卷1《疆域表》：“南陆，元陆居仁居此，故名。”（清光绪四年（1878）刻本，11页）
按：暂以元兵占领江南的至元十三年（1276）为聚落的形成年代。因娄县为析华亭县置，金山县为析娄县置，故隶属关系如此。",
