在今上海松江县沙港。约明正德初年形成集市，⑴属华亭县，清因之。1914年属松江县，至今不变。⑵
⑴明陈威、喻时修，顾清纂：正德《松江府志》卷9《镇市》：华亭县“沙冈镇在三十六保。镇地即古三冈之一，与竹冈、紫冈相去五里，自府至上海必由于是。其北数里，下皆黄沙，乡人甃砌须焉。”（明正德七年（1512）刻本，上海书店，《天一阁藏明代方志选刊续编》，473页）
清杨开第修、姚光发等纂：光绪《华亭县志》卷1《疆域》：“沙冈在县东北四十里（见宋《府志》）。其地即古三冈之一。市北数里，下皆黄沙，乡人甃砌咸需之（见顾《府志》。前志不载，今增）。”（清光绪五年（1879）刻本，15页）
⑵上海市松江县地方史志编纂委员会编《松江县志》卷1《建置》：“民国3年，华亭县改称松江县。”（上海人民出版社，1991年，59页）卷首《松江县行政区划图》新桥乡有沙港聚落，即沙冈。",
